Grocery Bag Holdermore use for self-striping sock yarn.
I used Moda Dea Sassy Stripes.
size 4 double pointed needles or size needed to get gauge
Gauge is 6 stitches 8 rows per inch
Cast on 20 stitches. Join, being careful not to twist. Put on row marker
Knit2 Purl 2 ribbing for 4 rounds
Knit one round
Knit 4, knit into the front and back of the next stitch, repeat this to complete 1 round--24 stitches
Knit 5, knit into the front and back of the next stitch, repeat this to complete 1 round -- 28 stitches
Knit 6, knit into the front and back of the next stitch, repeat this to complete 1 round --32 stitches
Knit 8, yo, repeat this to complete 1 round (this is to make opening for I-cord)--36 stitches
Knit all rows till desired length. Mine is about 12" from ribbing to ribbing
Knit 7, k2tog, repeat to end of round--32 stitches
Knit 6, k2tog, repeat to end of round--28 stitches
Knit 5, k2tog, repeat to end of round--24 stitches
Knit 4, k2tog, repeat to end of round--20 stitches
Knit 2, purl 2 ribbing for 4 rows
Bind off
Make I-cord out of 4 stitches. Weave through holes. Knot ends and tie to adjust to correct length.

I used a little less than a ball of sock yarn--not a lot really.
